Fichu Menocal grew up in a beautiful palace in Vedado, Havana, Cuba. Her roots came from 16th century French aristocracy.
She had a posh life style, surrounded by maids and servants. At the family’s dinner table - only French and English was permitted for conversations. A luxurious life style, grand parties and influential friends - that was her life. The only time she ran into poor people, was when shopping and meeting with friends in Miami. Her elegant and giant marriage to equally aristocratic Roberto Morales, who came from a family of architects and building constructors was the talk of town that year. Consequently Fichu had everything to loose from a revolution and everything to win to seeing it overthrown, but to everybody’s surprise Fichu stayed in Cuba, while most of her family and friends after the revolution left the island for a life in the US. For Fichu Menocal the revolution became her biggest challenge ever. This is her story - the story of an aristocrat who gave the Cuban revolution a chance.
